Description

The Mathematical Literacy MasterClass Series of videos was produced to highlight, clarify and refine the most important concepts as described in the Subject Assessment Guidelines (SAGs) for Mathematical Literacy.

An effort was made to address areas that cause confusion and are identified as areas of concern by students, when preparing for examinations.

 In each of the videos in the series, exam-style questions or questions adapted from past papers are discussed with the aim of providing the student with a blueprint to answer these questions. Special care was taken when discussing multi-calculation, multiple choice questions and explanation questions to explain how the student can get to the answer in depth.

 Students are encouraged to attempt the questions themselves before watching the explanation. A student that watches this MasterClass Series attentively and who takes an active learning approach to the explanations given, by working through other past papers, will be thoroughly prepared for their examinations..


Teacher Biography

Jacolene Venter has been involved in teaching and assessing Mathematical Literacy since its inception. She has been a Regional Moderator for the IEB as well as the Regional Representative for Gauteng and has been involved in the writing of the Grade 10 Mathematical Literacy textbook by Siyavula Education. Jacolene is passionate about the real life applications involved in the Mathematical Literacy curriculum and enjoys the empowering nature of the subject.
